Rep. Barbara Lee, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing California's 12th district, shared several significant updates through her social media posts on November 18, 2024. Lee has been a prominent figure since she replaced Ron Dellums in 1998 and has a longstanding commitment to public service.

On November 18, Rep. Barbara Lee expressed gratitude towards the Friends Committee on National Legislation for honoring her with their Lifetime Achievement Award. She stated, "Thank you to the Friends Committee on National Legislation for presenting me with their Lifetime Achievement Award. I commit to always be your partner in the fight for peace and justice!"

In another post from the same day, Lee reflected on her past experiences with surveillance during her time as a community organizer with the Black Panthers. She emphasized solidarity with Malcolm X’s daughters and criticized COINTELPRO's impact on Black communities by stating, "As someone who was unjustly surveilled for activism as a community organizer with the Black Panthers, I stand in solidarity with Malcolm X’s daughters... That’s why I co-lead the COINTELPRO Full Disclosure Act." She called for truth and justice regarding these issues.

Later that day, Rep. Lee urged Californians to adhere to public health guidelines to ensure safety against infectious diseases. Highlighting the importance of leadership within health agencies, she remarked, "I urge everyone in California to follow public health guidelines to keep themselves safe... our fight against infectious disease is ongoing and we must stay vigilant."
