560 coaches at institutions in Alameda County earned $158,144 on average in 2022

Alameda County’s 560 coaches earned an average salary of $158,144 in 2022, according to the U.S. Department of Education.

This is the highest average salary per county earned by coaches at California post-secondary schools during 2022.

Alameda County is home to nine post-secondary schools that paid coaches during 2022. Among them, University of California-Berkeley stood out with the highest average coaching salary of $372,756.

Male coaches of men's teams received $189,652 on average in Alameda County, while female coaches in charge of women's teams earned an average of $72,839.

Research from the Vanderbilt Owen Graduate School of Management found NCAA coaches are compensated like CEOs, with top coaches earning more than $1.5 million annually.
