Congresswoman Barbara Lee (D-CA) released the following statement in recognition of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month:

"Each May, we celebrate Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month as a way to honor and recognize the contributions, achievements, and diversity of this nation’s Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander communities, in the East Bay and across the country.

“AANHPI communities are woven into the fabric of our history. As instances of violence against these members of our community rise, we must stand together to condemn bigotry and hatred in all forms. By breaking down cultural barriers, I hope this month continues to help us foster a sense of unity and understanding and kindles a fight against stereotypes and prejudice toward communities whose diverse history, customs, and traditions have given so much to America."
