City of Long Beach issued the following announcement on Dec 31.
The City of Long Beach has reached a milestone with more than half a million tests for COVID-19 administered in the city since the pandemic began. Testing people for COVID-19, including those who have no symptoms, is extremely important. A positive test enables people to isolate themselves, reduce the spread and get treatment.
“Reaching half a million tests in Long Beach is a testament to our City’s commitment to tackle this crisis head on. The more people we test, the more lives we save,” said Mayor Robert Garcia. “Even though the vaccine is steadily being rolled out, this pandemic continues to take lives every day. Each loved one we lose reminds us of the importance of widespread testing and the need to continue to follow the advice of our health professionals.”
To date, 502,465 people have been tested in Long Beach at sites run by the Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services (Health Department), the State of California and at private labs.
Anyone who suspects that they have been exposed to COVID-19 should contact their personal healthcare provider first, if they have one. There also are six free COVID-19 testing sites in Long Beach:
- Long Beach City College, Pacific Coast Campus (1305 E. Pacific Coast Hwy.), weekdays 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
- Jordan Plus High School (171 W. Bort St.), weekdays 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- Long Beach City College, Veterans Stadium (500 E. Lew Davis Dr.), weekdays 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. until further notice.
- Cabrillo High School (2001 Santa Fe Ave.) weekends 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
- Harbor District (2100 W. Anaheim St.), weekdays 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
- Rapid Assessment Clinic (RAC) at Long Beach City College, Pacific Coast Campus, weekdays 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
“We have worked extremely hard with our partners to increase capacity and provide opportunities for free testing to more and more of our residents,” said Sandy Wedgeworth, Manager of Public Health Emergency Management.
All City-run test sites offer dual testing (COVID-19 and influenza). Appointments are available up to three days in advance and can be made online or by calling the City’s COVID-19 Info Line at 562.570.INFO (4636). Free testing is offered to all residents of Long Beach, Signal Hill, Lakewood, Paramount and Compton. There are no residency requirements at the Jordan Plus High School testing site.
Mobile testing also continues to be available for residents who are not able to leave their residence due to mobility issues, underlying health conditions or other issues. To request mobile testing, individuals may complete an online form or call the City’s COVID-19 Info Line. Mobile testing is available Monday through Friday.
As of December 31, there have been 32,368 COVID-19 cases in Long Beach, and 395 people have died from the virus. Approximately 23,125 individuals have recovered.
